1995 – Joseph Rottblat and the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs

Joseph Rottblat grew up in Warsaw, Poland,

A child in a poor family, he became an electrician,

But he took evening classes in Physics, and later secured

A doctorate degree. An English university then offered

A research post. He moved there just as Hitler rose,

His Polish wife becoming one of those

Targeted for death in Hitler’s genocide of the Jews.

Joseph joined the Manhattan project at Los Alamos,

Top scientists’ collaborative efforts to harness

Atomic energy – which created the ultimate annihilator.

He left when he saw their goal was to use it in war.

He joined other scientists to publicly call for an end

To nuclear weapons development and production.

Decades of global conferences urged non-proliferation.

I'm a writer and poet, also an American attorney. I live and work in Norway. I enjoy a part-time consulting practice while I appreciate having the time to write poetry and non-fiction, travel, paint and draw. I love nature, writing, cultural touring, and photography, and hope to publish these poems one day as a book.
