1995 – Joseph Rottblat and the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs – 2

When Rottblat severed ties and returned to England,

His own research turned to peace, and to medicine.

After the atomic blasts of 1945,

He joined Einstein and Bertrand Russell, among many

World scientists, demanding an end to any

Further use of weapons of mass destruction.

The Russell-Einstein Manifesto was pivotal in gathering

Pugwash Conferences, renowned for demanding

Strong national support to push for limits to production

Of nuclear weapons. Their work helped to limit

Weapons production – by law. That work continues:

We “remain steadfast in our belief that nuclear weapons

Threaten the continued existence of mankind, and disarmament

Is a necessary condition towards reducing reliance on war.”*

I'm a writer and poet, also an American attorney. I live and work in Norway. I enjoy a part-time consulting practice while I appreciate having the time to write poetry and non-fiction, travel, paint and draw. I love nature, writing, cultural touring, and photography, and hope to publish these poems one day as a book.
