A place to do something that matters

A place to breath freely, speak strongly, care deeply, and hopefully make a difference

leaves the great undone behind him.” – Piet Hein

Goals Here

Poetry

Poetry has been a part of my life and experience since I was a child. I wrote my first poem at about age 12. Since then, I’ve dipped in and out of verse and journal writing, and have never given it up. Most of my work has never been put into a word-processing system. I’m now enjoying working on a collection of sonnets.

My Work

My life, generally, involves consulting on American legal and tax issues. I opened this web space to do something else, to explore life through the written word in meaningful and intentional ways.

In this project, I’m asking: what did one person/peace prize winner do, and how did they accomplish it? And, for each, what was their over-arching action/means/lesson towards securing Peace. I hope it will be published someday.

Follow Me

My poetry holds a mirror to relationships – personal, communal and global. My stories tell parts of what happened – because it mattered.

You’re welcome to subscribe to my site to see my latest additions, and to comment. I’m also interested in friendships, community and feedback that this might lead to, and realize all communication is a two-way street.

About Me

I was born in Chicago, and grew up there, part of the ‘baby boom’ generation. Summers were spent visiting Norwegian relatives on ‘the farm in Iowa’ while Spring vacations often included trips to Florida to visit cousins and grandparents there. My father was a doctor and surgeon. My mother was a professional singer. When I was 16, I moved away from the city and didn’t move back until I was 36, a perfect 20 years spent living in Wisconsin, and southern and central Illinois.

In terms of education, I have several degrees which you will find enumerated at my consulting website, http://www.edvensonconsulting.com.

My last completed degree was a Master’s in English at Oslo, which lead me to journey back to poetry, specifically sonnets.

In my life to date, I’m probably most proud of standing up to political corruption during my employment at the State of Illinois. I am also proud to fight the corruption that engulfed the U.S. during Trump’s presidency, albeit with small efforts. I’m also proud of my work helping Americans overseas, some desperate for ways to see their children in Norway.

I work and live in Norway, where I like to hit the gym and swim as often as I can. My work now is part-time and seasonal. This gives me flexibility I enjoy. I walk the dog, cook, paint, draw, and enjoy, in particular, summers. I travel for work to the U.S. and to other destinations for workshops, continuing education, writing and sketching. My travel serves to support my life’s work, and includes cultural explorations and retreats. I consider myself extremely lucky, serious, and believe and know I’m still going places, literally and figuratively.

About Copyright

The copyright on the work I publish here is protected in my name globally. It was not written on the date it is uploaded, but all was written by me and me alone, and has not been published elsewhere ( unless noted).

I assure readers that I have the proof it takes to prove my copyright in these works, which have not been published. Are you a publisher? Are you an agent? Would you like to publish some of my work? Then we can discuss that in writing. I hope you find my writing compelling, interesting and are interested in helping others to discover it – ideally, through a published book.
